Noel Whelan, 44 goals
Born in Leeds, Whelan started off with hometown team Leeds United, coming through the youth team with a number of other talented youngsters who beat a Manchester United team boasting Beckham, Scholes, Butt and Neville home and away in the F.A. Youth Cup Final. Turning professional in March 1993, he made his debut in the first season of the FA Premier League, in a 1–1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday on 4 May 1993. The following season, he made 16 league appearance but failed to score.
Despite a slow start Whelan ended his career with 44 Premier League goals, not bad for a player that played much of the time in Midfield.
Coventry City signed Whelan from Leeds and enjoyed his best scoring spell as a player helping them to respectable league finishes in the 5 seasons he was there before signing for Middlesbrough in 2000.
