Every English football fan has felt the excruciating disappointment of an early World Cup exit.

We are used to it by now, Southgate can spout any crap he likes but we all know he would sell his soul to get to a quarter final.

Taking pride in our national team is impossible sometimes, and always difficult.

Here at The Football Report we desperately want to celebrate the England team so for a change, we will. Don’t worry it won’t take long….

England World Cup Records

Golden Boot – Gary Lineker 1986

Good old Gary, probably our best player performance since 1966. A great achievement, especially when you consider he did it a very long way from home.

Oldest Captain – Peter Shilton 40 years 292 days v Italy 1990

Shilts was a rock for England and eventually a great captain.

Oldest Debutant – David James 39 years 321 days v Algeria 2010

David James wasn’t a rock for England but did have a brief spell of terrific form near the end of his career which saw him force his way back into the World Cup Squad.

Most matches without conceding – Peter Shilton – 10

Shilton again, let’s hope Joe Hart lasts 10 minutes without conceding in Russia.

Undefeated – 1966, 1982, 2006

England have been undefeated in three World Cups excluding penalty shootout losses but have only ever looked like winning one of them, which they did, in style.

Highest scoring draw – 4-4 v belgium 1954

A great game and one of those records that may last forever.

Hat-trick in final – Geoff Hurst 1966

Our finest hour, we actually won it you know, at Wembley. A long long time ago.
